Character Breakdown
TELESCREEN VOICE: (M or F) the voice of Oceania propaganda. Cold, crisp British dialect. Domineering and persuasive. 
WINSTON SMITH: (M) the protagonist. Intelligent, thoughtful. Disagrees with the world but initially extremely wary and careful.
JULIA (F): young woman, prim but ultimately a rebel. She is forward and gets what she wants.
PARSONS (M or F): jovial, stupid. Very loyal party member. 
SYME (M or F): timid, scholarly, hesitant and self-effacing
GLADWELL (M or F): young, eager worker. Hungry for knowledge and wants to do right.
O’BRIEN (M): coarse, mysterious, charming. Capable of playing duality. Friendly to evil in an instant.
MESSENGER (M or F): teenager, loyal party member.
COFFEE VENDOR (M or F): teenager, loyal party member.
GLADYS: (F) early teens, Parson’s daughter, a member of the Children’s Spies. Obnoxious, tattle-tale.
LANDLADY: (F) older, unkempt, one of the “proles.” Lower class British accent.
GUARDS (M or F): imposing figures, still/unmoving, emotionless (think “Squid Games”)
